Albania signs deal to sell four hydro power plants to steelmaker Kurum

Albania's economy ministry has signed a deal to sell four hydro power plants to steelmaker Kurum International, the ministry said in a statement. The deal will need the approval of the government and the parliament.
Kurum was declared winner in the two tenders for the plants after submitting the highest bids. Kurum offered EUR 57.5mn to buy 100% of Ulez Shkopet that runs the Ulez and Shkopet plants, located on the Mat River. The Ulez plant has a capacity of 25.5MW and the Shkopet plant has a capacity of 24MW. Kurum also offered EUR 52mn to buy 100% of Bistrica 1 (22.5MW) and Bistrica 2 (5MW) hydro power plants, on the Bistrica River. The four plans were spun off from state-owned power utility KESH in 2011 prior to their offering for sale as an independent entity. Kurum International is the local subsidiary of Turkish Kurum Holding. Kurum International is one of the biggest industrial investors in Albania.
